There were some good points from the last two lactnetters to post on this, about the fact that the tyrants and megalomaniacs of history, ancient and modern, may well have been breastfed, too.
Don't forget that, at least in the past, some of the breastfeeding may have been done by a wet-nurse, with whom a close primary bond was formed.  Sir Richard Bowlby's plenary presentation on attachment theory at the VELB / ILCA conference reminded me that the bond with a mother substitute (he mentioned a nanny) was important and could leave a child bereft if separation occurred in the early years.  Diaz de Chumaceira (1) has described the sensed of loss felt by notable persons (British Prime Ministers) after the departure of a wet-nurse or a nanny (nurse maid), an example of the severance of the primary attachment.
