Hi all,

Luanne - reading your post my first thought was something is up with mom.
Munchausen's possibly? Baby is 'sick' - she is unable to feed him even tho
fussy.only eats q 6hrs? Doesn't sound normal to me at all. Munchausen's
parents look fine and blame illness on baby to get attention for
themselves.and can do things to the baby to make them ill.bad situation.

It does not make sense to me that mom would be unable to feed the baby. She
can either feed at breast or by bottle and it sounds like she was initially
doing that in the fact that baby had a weight gain. I feel something is
missing in this scenario. If the baby lost that much weight and is that
dehydrated then baby isn't being fed - or not fed enough. I would hope that
someone somewhere told this mom that baby needed to be fed more than q/6hrs
- so why wasn't she feeding the baby? Is this the result of pacifier use -
exhaustion in mom - or psychological on her part? My gut says probably not
a metabolic issue to begin with tho may be now due to lack of food.

I agree with the statement that a 4 wk old should be taking in more than 2
oz. That would be more like a snack. If he were doing that every 1.5 - 2
hours around the clock then fine - but not at 6 hour intervals - if that is
what he is doing - no wonder he is starving and dehydrated. Personally, I'd
keep a VERY close eye on this one.I'd be watching mom and baby for signs of
Munchausen's.sad but true. And someone else mentioned why mom didn't mom
get help sooner.I wondered about that too.

Now, I could be totally wrong about Munchausen's and it could be a baby
issue - however, it doesn't explain inability for mom to feed baby and baby
only eating q 6 hours.unless baby is sleeping that long between feedings
because BF is going so poorly that he doesn't have enough energy left to
even wake up to feed more regularly.

Please let us know what you find out.'cause something really isn't right
here.

Warmly,

Jaye
