Hi All,
I work as a LC in two hospitals and have been encouraging skin to skin
contact from birth for several years now. I love the babies and Mom's
reactions. I will admit I have to hold myself back sometimes not to help.
We all know how well it works. Some of the nurses have figured it out and
do it, but I still spend a lot of time undressing babies,
My question is when it does not work,
I feel the best approach is hand expression, allowing infant to lick or
mom's finger to baby mouth. If after 24 hours if the baby is still not
feeding, we start mom pumping with the symphony and finger feed. I feel we
should be spoon feeding but am meeting a lot of resistance.
Any ideas? comments??
Thanks
