Diana, thank you for your detailed response. I'm confused about some=20
things: For example, if domperidone is only 'good to start' AFTER the ba=
by is=20 born, why do the Newman-Goldfarb Protocols of Induced Lactation
include i= t's=20 use?

I don't know exactly, only that the protocol also hs the mother, who is not
going to be pregnant, on a regimen of birth control pills... The process of
re-lactating is kind of a "back door" process that attempts to artificially
mimic pregnancy. Perhaps it's done elsewhere, but I've never heard of
Domperidone being used during an actual pregnancy, and not until after the
first week postpartum. Maybe it does adversely affect the fetus? Maybe
your case will be the first success story? I can't wait to find out! :)

Also, your point about most galactogogue herbs not working during pregnan=
cy=20 because of the different hormonal set than in lactation seems=20
reasonable...however, the mother in question IS lactating already!

Yes, but she's also pregnant, and odds are that as her pregnancy progresses,
her supply will dwindle, not increase. Having nursed through a pregnancy
myself and wondered the same thing (but to keep up my supply for my toddler,
not to build a stronger one for my newborn), the research I did told me that
fenugreek was actually contraindicated in pregnancy -- the only herbal that
was recommended was called "more milk two" I believe (and reports about its
effectiveness were spotty at best). Again, check about goats' rue and
progesterone during pregnancy, as those act on the tissue itself in
pregnancy. The goal with a mother with insufficient tissue is to maximize
that production from that tissue.

I'm sorry I only have half answers, I hope to hear the full story as much as
you do, because these are the mothers who are so desperate to breastfeed and
need our help! Please keep me posted on this mother's progress and
outcomes. Thanks!
