Drinking enough water will actually make *water* act as a diuretic.

I believe the MD was suggesting that the mom drink lots of water to
replace *into* the circulatory system what the diuretic was taking *out*
of the tissue cells and circulatory system, not that drinking water
would reduce the edema.
