Kathleen,
Elavil (amitryptylene) (sp?) is a drug that is compatible with
breastfeeding that can be used for narcolepsy. It is generally used in
smaller doses for narcolepsy than for depression. Other tips for moms
with this condition include using a baby sling to prevent dropping the
baby if the mom has cataplexy, and nursing the baby on a blanket on the
floor if mom is feeling fatigued. Then baby cannot roll off the bed.
Scrupulous baby-proofing of the house is also neccessary, as baby may be
unsupervised at short notice if mom falls asleep.
