Even stranger, in about 1993, a mum I was working with told me the
paediatrician who saw her baby (not done routinely here in NZ) advised her
to give the baby orange juice - from memory to 'help jaundice'.... I was
convinced the mother had it wrong, but then heard similiar stories from
other midwives.
Strange huh? And just this year, a general practitioner (I think you call
them family doctors in the US - that's who gives the vast majority of
primary medical care) advised a thriving, (large) 3 week old breastfeeding
baby to be given some solids (baby rice) to 'help with colic'. this mum
wouldn't tell me who he was (visiting her mum out of town) otherwise I would
have *had* to ring him and ask why,why why would you suggest this. BTW she
didn't give it!

so it still happening - and we have quite good statistics here, at least
till 3 months.
