I have always been uncomfortable advising mothers to obtain a medication
(galactagogue) by going outside the country, having some doubts about the
ethics of circumventing the law.  Consequently, I am so grateful to discover
that a local compounding pharmacy in my city will now offer domperidone by
prescription for use as a milk production enhancer.  I am working with a FTT
baby, and the doctor was very happy to prescribe Reglan, however the
side-effects were creating maternal depression.  So she was equally happy,
once she learned about the profile of domperidone, to prescribe it. The
pharmacy was equally happy to provide it.  I would suggest that other LCs
contact their local compounding pharmacies to see if this can occur in your
locale.  This was an idea directly attributable to Cindy Curtis, who
suggests it on her website, so thank you Cindy for an idea that vastly
expands our local resources.
