Ok..need guru input here.
For those of you who work with breastfeeding mothers that are medical
professionals- what advise do you give if the mother has recieved a needle
stick injury/body fluid exposure? I checked the CDC info and couldn't find
much of anything. I keep getting phone calls from medical moms who have
suffered an exposure and our Occ.Med dept. tells them they should quit
breastfeeding immediately or their baby is at risk.
Now, if the patient was an HIV/Hep pos. I could understand that while mom
is undergoing follow up there might be some concern??? but if the patient
is negative at time of injury- are there any recommendations? Would
appreciate any info or other areas to lit search- I just hate
the "everybody answer" of quit breastfeeding immediately.
