I just finished reading a wonderful book on essential fatty acids,
including the omega-3s.  The name of the book is "Smart Fats" by Michael
Schmidt.  I ordered my book from Amazon and highly recommend it to
anyone who wants further information in this area.

DHA is probably the omega-3 that your mom is thinking about.  Actually
it is contained in breastmilk and many other foods (but it is NOT found
in any AIM currently manufactured in the United States).  You can find
DHA in salmon, herring, albacore tuna, algae, chicken that has been
raised on a high omega-3 fatty acid feed, and in eggs.  Eggs from
chickens that are free range roaming contain more DHA than eggs that are
purchased in the grocery store.  Cooking with high temperatures can
destroy some of the DHA found in eggs and other foods.  You can also
obtain DHA by taking fish oil supplements.

DHA is an extremely delicate fatty acid.  DHA is essential for brain
development.  The "Smart Fats" book goes into many other diseases that
may be caused by a lack of essential fatty acids in our modern diets.
Once you read this book, you will want to feed your family salmon at
least once per week ;)
