Becky,

I saw your post on Lactnet and wanted to respond to the questions you
raised concerning the Ameda pump kits. I am a lactation consultant in
private practice and I also rent pumps from both Ameda (Hollister) and
Medela. I used some of my rental pumps to obtain some readings with a
vacuum gauge inserted in the flange of the pumping kits. I used the
"double set up" each time, blocking one of the flanges with a rubber
plug while I took a reading on the flange that was working.

Using the Dual HygieniKit, I got the following readings on 2 Classic
pumps:
Minimum pressure = 160 , Maximum pressure = 260

Using the Dual HygieniKit, I got the following readings on 3 Lact-E
pumps:
Minimum pressure = 100 to 120 , Maximum pressure = 260

Using the Universal pumping kit from Medela, I got the following reading
on 2 Classic pumps:
Minimum pressure = 110 , Maximum pressure = 260

I do not rent the Elite pumps and could not obtain any readings from
them.

The Universal pumping kit will not fit on the Lact-E, so I could not get
any readings there either.

It appears from my results that the Ameda Dual HygieniKit used on the
Classic pump produces pressure readings that are much higher on the
"minimum" setting. This was a fairly small sample, but I thought it
would add to your knowledge base.
