Nancy writes:
"I have found over the years that even those more experienced LCs
that I learned from early on were wrong about some things." and
quotes Julian Huxley, "During the next century, half of
what we know now will be proven wrong. Unfortunately, we don't know
which half." Concluding with, "Because we are in the infancy of our
field, we are in much the same boat."

This is why we hear so often, "But that's not the way I learned it."
Or for those of us who have been in one setting for some time, "But
last time you gave a tlak you said....."

This is why I like to point out that while breastfeeding doesn't
change, our understanding of how it works and how to best help moms
and babies does change. What may have been recommended perviously
was likely "right" based on the info available at that time. What
we say now is, hopefully, the best information we have at the
present time. As we learn more, this information may change also.
This is also why, even with what currently seems to be very
evidence-based info, we find ourselves using different approaches
when the current CW isn't working with a particular mom/baby.
Flexibility is such an important fquality for us in this field.

Winnie
