Suzanne

I published a peer-reviewed journal focusing on birth and breastfeeding for 15 years and for half of that time, was the editor. My long-time close friend, Diony Young, is editor of the journal, Birth: Issues in Perinatal Care. I have worked with Diony on her Conferences in the US. I would NEVER make such a sweeping statement about medical journals.

You have misunderstood the post or presumed.

This is one reason why I rarely post to Lactnet..
what's said, correctly, or incorrectly about you remains in the archives, available to anyone forever..

I DID NOT SAY ANYTHING APART FROM THE FEW WORDS INTRODUCING
THE NEWS REPORTS. THE TITLE OF THE POST IS THE TITLE OF THE NEWS ARTICLE.

My words were:

<<<fyi, an article I received this morning..

the link at the top, and then the article.
and I've also included the cited NY times [article (sic)] below.
Wyeth, Elsevier and Dr John Eden (Syd, Australia) all mentioned.>>>

The rest were from news reports.

Subject: medical journals as fiction?

Jan, I think it is perhaps a bit harsh to suggest that medical journals are
mainly fiction and do not contain, by and large, evidence-based medicine.

That said, I *expect* Big Pharma to behave sneakily. I'm much more
disappointed in
physicians who prostitute their academic credentials this way.

Not only nondisclosure of collaborators --- but also nondisclosure of
funding, falsifying data, overstating the relative importance of a single
study -- any kind of academic dishonesty is abhorrent. Lives really are at
stake.

On a happier topic, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the
Lactnetters out there for everything y'all've taught me this year... and
everything you're going to teach me next year, and the year after that...
What a blessing you are for moms and babies all over the world. Happy
holidays!
