Linda, I'm happy (?) to say that we've recently had a few moms who fought tooth and nail to keep their babies with "questionable" blood sugars from being supplemented.

We're using these instances as the starting point for an inservice about "why those crazy moms don't want their babies to get ANY formula." We're using Marsha Walker's "Just One Bottle Won't Hurt---or Will It?" handout.

We plan to focus on "This is what the moms know and why they're so adamant."
(Could we all just thank Marsha once again for having what we need ready to go for us?)

During the session, we hope the nurses'll get the message that cavalier supplementation is a BAD idea. We'll even touch on the ethics of it with the focus being how formula feeding moms leave the hospital with their babies being entirely formula fed. Bfdg moms should leave with their feeding decisions being respected, too. Not sure if we'll get into "and you could be charged with battery.
