Hi, all!

I am looking for helpful information to give a Vietnamese mom with twins in
NICU. They are around 34-35 weeks adjusted age now, born 3 weeks ago. I
will be seeing her tomorrow regarding dietary concerns with her husband
there to translate. Apparently there was an episode within the last few
days of both infants "spitting up all day" and a nurse thinking the breast
milk "smelled funny" so she threw it out. I have spoken with the nurse
regarding thawing milk/smells, etc. The problem is that the nurse informed
the Mom that she had thrown out the milk and now Mom is expressing fears
about "bad milk" and saying her milk is drying up. The NICU received the
last of her supply from home yesterday. She is using a hospital grade
rental pump and tells the nurse that she is pumping every 3 hours. I will
verify her pumping routine when I speak with her and reinforce other
pertinent issues such as rest, fluids, stress, etc. But I wondered if
anyone had any good ideas for other info specific to Vietnamese culture,
diet, etc. I am told by the nurse that the Mom doesn't want to put the
babies to breast, but does want to provide "good milk" for them. (Just by
way of reference, donor milk is not commonly used in the NICU here.)

Thanks for any input.
