<< Cathy, I have to agree with you about WIC moms and the use of those heavy,
bulky, back straining carriers they use. I honestly think some don't know
there are other ways to tote a baby around. What if those of us involved
with WIC pushed for allowing WIC funds to pay for baby slings? If we could
get them with the "Loving Support Makes Breastfeeding Work" logo printed on
them, think of the strong message that would give for breastfeeding and
attachment parenting. WIC now allows food dollars to be spent on breast
pumps. Spending some of that money on slings might go even farther to
support breastfeeding as the cultural norm. What do you think?

A WIC program in Virginia used to make their own slings out of 2 pillowcases.
I have the directions. One of my PC's made some once to sell at a craft fair
and they were very popular. You lay the pillowcases on top of each other and
stitch 2 seams down the sides, turn it out and you have a big loop of
material which is double thickness. that is esentially the sling. You can add
stuffing between the two side seams to make the neck padding.
It's hard to describe but easy to make. The program in Va bought beautiful
pillowcases at yard sales, often with embroidery or trim on it.
