I read the reactions about bf only one twin. Unfortunately I didnt read the
first mail about it. So I dont know what the reasons are why the mother
cant or wont bf one of her twins. But I couldnt resist to tell my point of
view, because I lived it! My twins were born fullterm, the boy with 3260 g
and the girl with 2500 g. My son started bf very well, my daughter had
problems. For some reason she always lost the breast, cried, was very angry
and so on. I tried for a few days and then the doctors insisted in giving
her a bottle. I began to pump and soon Constanza became only bm. But I
always felt that I was missing something. What happened was that my husband
and my mother began to feed Constanza, because I was so occupied bf
Mauricio and pumping. Mauricio wanted to drink every 2 hours (for at least
half an hour) and then I had to pump. Very often in the meantime Constanza
began to cry, because she was hungry. So my husband or my mother attended
her. I really felt very very bad, because I didnt have the same
body-contact with Constanza as I had automatically with Mauricio when we
bf. Of course I took her with me and held her etc., but it WAS NOT THE
SAME. I dont blame my husband or my mother - they were angels and helped me
a lot. I really didnt have to do nothing in the household. I tried bf with
Constanza, but she refused nearly all the time. I called LLL and they gave
me the phone-number of a LC. She came to me (the twins were already 2
months old) and looked how Constanza tried to bf and how she always let
loose my breast. She told me about the syringes and what I had to do (no
pacifier etc.). And then at the end she showed me the football-hold and
told me that that could be a better position for bf. And that was it! From
the same day Constanza was bf in the football-hold. We didnt need syringes
nor pump. Of course it was quite hard, because Constanza needed ONE hour
for one meal (1 hour pause and then the next meal!). My let-down was very
good, so all I did do was holding her head and pouring my milk into her
mouth. So she began to drink, tried to suck and it was better every day.
After two weeks she did bf just as professional as her brother! And I was
the most happiest mother in the world! So dont give up!
