That made me think of a study I read about on LACTNET not too long ago:
Infants should not spend a lot of time in car seats because of the hazards
that position posed after an extended period of time (paraphrasing).  It had
something to do with either putting pressure on internal organs and/or
affecting respiration.  In either case, you were right on in recommending
that she safely bed share with her infant, in a position in which baby would
be unlikely to slump its head and hinder correct breathing.  I hope it all
turns out well.  Lucky for mom, she found you (a healthcare professional who
actually paid attention to her concerns.)
