Another LLL Leader chiming in here --
I think a useful assignment would be to have the students read up
beforehand on the commonly cited reasons for discontinuing
breastfeeding and then note how those issues are discussed at the LLL
meeting. Which of them come up? How do the mothers respond? How
does the Leader respond? What information or techniques are shared
that the student could later use in working with breastfeeding
mothers and babies? Does the student feel that the commonly cited
reasons for weaning are strong reasons, or are they things that can
generally be overcome with correct information and support?

This would probably work best if the students attended a meeting on
The Art of Breastfeeding and Avoiding Difficulties, which is the
third topic in LLL's rotating series of four. However, I am sure the
assignment could be completed after attending an LLL meeting on any
topic because mothers' questions and concerns are always addressed.

For a follow-up you could assign some reading on the importance of
peer support and ask the students to evaluate the LLL meeting in
light of this.

Thank you for teaching about breastfeeding! You are positively
affecting many, many people by giving your students a good education
on this subject.
