As regards Carla's mention of her statuette of cross-species breastfeeding: I used to have a poster from Papua New Guinea, with a stylized sketch of a mother with her baby on one breast and a pig on the other. When I was given the poster, I was told that it reflected a well-known village practice. Nourishing the family's most valuable economic resource, the piglet, was a priority in traditional villages, and if the piglet needed milk, it got it - breastmilk.
I'm not sure if these piglets came from large litters, too many piglets for the number of teats on the sow, or whether they were taken from the sow too early.
