DES MOINES, Iowa (Reuters) - The seven McCaughey brothers
and sisters were reported thriving Thursday, two weeks after
their birth, as plans were being firmed up for a septuplet-sized
home for the only family of its kind.
Lynne Yontz, spokeswoman for Blank Children's Hospital at
Iowa Methodist Medical Center, said the three girls and four
boys were receiving small amounts of food and some have gained
weight they lost in the days immediately after birth.
They were all listed in ``fair'' condition, as they have
been for nearly a week, with no reported setbacks. They were
born nine weeks early and were not expected to be released from
hospital care until well into January.
``We're watching how the babies tolerate food,'' she said.
They are consuming a combination of formula designed for
premature infants and breast milk from their mother, 29-year-old
Bobbi McCaughey.
