Shannon, there's no way to know if this baby will be thrilled to go to
another Mommy's breast or not until she tries. It might go very
smoothly. Off the record :), I have nursed friends babies several times
when mom was gone longer than expected, without any trouble at all (of
course with Mom's complete consent and gratitude)

As far as milk supply for the 6 week old is concerned, was the baby avg.
sized full term and gaining well? If so, it should only take Mom a few
days to increase her supply, which wouldn't harm the newest born. It
will make all the difference if the motherless baby will accept the
breast readily or not.

At the least, your mom should be able to provide EBM for this poor
baby. I can't even imagine what the Dad must be going through :(

My very best wishes for you and them.
