Hello,

I am looking for the latest research on lactational amenhorrea physiology and the prolactin mystery. I can´t find anything past 1996, when Tay and cols. stated that "there may be no precise link between the release of prolactin during lactation and the duration of lactational infertility in lactating women", despite the way suckling makes prolactin rise. On my fifth edition of Lawrence it states the same thing, adding that suckling seems to disrupt the estradiol levels and the release of gonadotropin. Conclusions are that it is a complex mechanism and that it is incompletely understood. There is a strong correlation between end of lactational infertility and introduction of complementary foods, that is clear. But the whole hormonal process is a difficult tangle.

I wanted to ask if anyone knows of advances in this research. I haven´t been able to find anything new.

  Thanks for your help,
  Kika
