I only saw a portion of it but it apparently was a continuation of the theme
of how hard it is to be a mother. She had camera persons visit a new mom ( 12
days postpartum) for 24 hrs and video tape her thru the 24 hrs. She
complained about engorgement and having to get the milk out. The baby had a
pacifier in alot of the scenes. The baby cried alot ( it seemed to me). She
tried to bath both the toddler and the baby but then the baby had to nurse so
she had to give up on the bath. She then had a Peds visit and had to drive
herself with the infant and a toddler. Then she had to come home and fix
dinner for the dad after he worked all day. She complained about nursing
every 2-3 hrs at night and how she never gets any sleep. She spent the entire
night nursing sessions sitting up and then spent several minutes trying to
burp the baby very vigerously. Oprah gave her a "gift " of 2 months worth of
nanny service so she can sleep thru the night. One pregnant woman in the
audience said that "NO ONE" had told her about this side of things.
I would have loved to be there to tell her:
1. One don't have to sit up at night to nurse-sleep with the baby.
2. Have dad, a neighbor, a friend or grandmother drive mom to the Peds and
entertain the toddler.
3. If dad is smart enough to make a baby, he is smart enough to make a
sandwich for dinner. Why is it that just because he is married he thinks he
is entitled to maid service? What would he do if he was single and coming
home from work?
4. Dad can give baths. This is a continuation of the theme of "if Dad is smart
enough to create a baby he is smart enough to..."
5. The nanny money probably could be used to pay for once a week
housecleaning service for several months.
6. The paci may be contributing to why you are engorged.
7. Dad could entertain/parent both children at night for a while so mom can
get a nap.
