Forgive the off-topic request, but many on this list are involved with
out-of-hospital births or quick-discharge hospital births.

If you are in the US, how do you deal with your state's requirement that all
newborns be tested later than 24 hours after birth but before hospital
discharge?

I am helping to writing a form to help parents understand that a) though the
hospital is required to test even if discharge is in less than 24 hours, the
tests for inborn errors of metabolism will be invalid and therefore need to
be repeated later in the week, and that b) the parents are entitled to
decline the first test, especially if they know they are going to have the
poor baby re-stuck the next day anyway.

(Indirect topic relatedness -- 24 hours is because they need to be already
digesting. If they all bf in the first hour this would be irrelevant!)

If you have forms you use for this, or helpful ideas, I would be grateful if
you would email me PRIVATELY of course at [log in to unmask] Thanks.

Elisheva
