Post partum breastfeeding mothers with fever should not breastfeed because
they may have bacteremia, or viremia. Why take the risk? What is a common
policy for breast feeding pp moms with fever? thank you all, Judy
Post-partum moms with fever SHOULD breastfeed! She has already exposed her
infant to the bacteria or virus, and if she does not breastfeed, she gives her
infant the disease without the cure! namely the antibodies in her milk. Look
at the chapter in Dr. Lawrence's book on transmission of infectious disease
through breastfeeding (written by her son, Robert Lawrence, an infectious
disease specialist).
