Recent posts seem to be touching on issues near and
dear to my heart.

Regarding the issue of workplace lactation/ break policies
especially regarding trying to attract and keep good female
docs and other hcps:

In my research on workplace lactation policies, I found that
workplaces tend to have two different philosphies about the
balance of home and work, especially as it effects women.
These two philosophies fall broadly into the "women are
special because they bear and raise children" and "women are
equal in the workplace and should not get any special treatment"
Workplaces with both philosophies develop good lactation support
programs, but they are different and have different emphases.

It would be a very long post to flesh out all the details of this,
but I have summarized it in an article in JHL a few years ago.
"Workplace Lactation Support, Part 2: Working with the Workplace."
JHL 1998; 14:321-5.
