Dear Friends,
I have permission to post and would greatly appreciate your input.

First time mother, 37 years old.
Mother was dxed at age 18 with a pituitary microadenoma. Until then she
hadn't started menstruating. She had slight galactorrhea. She was treated
with dostinex (cabergoline) to keep her prolactin levels down. She started
having a period every 6 weeks. Over the past few years her prolactin
levels were declining with out treatment but she was put back on dostinex
when she decided to get pregnant. It took her a year, and another pill for
a month (oops, I don't know what but it was to make her ovulate more
regularly) to get pregnant. She went off the medicine as soon as she knew
that she was pregnant. Her breasts grew slightly during the pregnancy and
then shrunk back after birth.

To make a long story short, she has not produced a drop of milk since the
birth.

Mom's base prolactin level was checked 5 days post partum and found to be
very low. In Israel we measure prolactin differently than in the US and
maybe other places. Her prolactin is 465.8 when it should be in the
thousands.

Breasts are very round, smallish, perky with very long nipples kind of oval
shaped. The other LC who saw her, compared her breasts to funnels. Breasts
are soft. The other LC palpitated some glandular tissue around 9 o'clock
(on the breasts). Mother is putting baby to breast on occasion. He does
not latch well with Mom's long nipples but he is happy to be there and does
well with a tube. She is also pumping with a lactina. She has no signs of
an MER.

Mother has G6PD. (I don't know how that could be connected but just in
case....)

Has anyone seen anything like this? Is there anything to do?

Thank you so much,
Chayn Fogelman IBCLC Israel
