In the past week I have come into contact with two pg women who have asked
for suggestions on what they can do to make bf go well this go-round, and
I'm calling on the wisdom of the Lactnetters for suggestions.

Case #1: Mother tried to bf first child, managed to bf w/ supplementation
for 6 months. She was very committed to bf (according to her--I didn't know
her at the time). She said her breasts never changed during that pregnancy,
never seemed full or became engorged. She is now 8 months pg and has
noticed no breast changes. I'm about to do an archives search, but
wondered, other than watchful waiting, is there anything we can do to
jumpstart a supply for her? I was not able to see if her breasts are
tubular, etc. since we were in a public area at the time she asked for help.

Case #2: Mother breastfed first 2 children w/ no problems. Third child was
being bf but *stopped breathing in his mother's arms* just after a feed when
he was about two weeks old. She noticed him turning blue and shook him. He
started breathing again; she rushed him to the hospital. Tests never turned
up anything that would have caused respiratory problems, but both her MER
and milk supply disappeared overnight. I have known this mom since child #2
and worked with her throughout this time w/ #3, trying to reestablish
breastfeeding, but we were unsuccessful. The mom has always been rather
high-strung (is there an appropriate medical term for that?) and needed lots
of confidence-building, and I'm wondering what I can say to help her with
#4. Can someone suggest what I should search for in the archives, i.e., re:
"subsequent nurslings after stress-induced weaning"?

Don't repeat anything that's been said in the archives, but I'd appreciate
additional helpful ideas for these cases.

Thanks,
Edie Eckman
