Dear Lactnetters:
I am working with my first case of diagnosed PCOS. Mom is having
trouble with low supply. She has had no ovarian cysts, but before pregnancy was
dx with high testosterone and insulin resistance (not diabetes, and did not
have gestational diabetes). She needed to take "medicine" (she didn't specify
what kind) to combat the testosterone so she could get pregnant. I mentioned
metformin, but she said she has taken that before and would prefer not to do it
again if she doesn't have to. Baby also has sucking problems, which we are
working on correcting. I have mom pumping after breastfeeding and have
suggested a number of various galactogogues. We are awaiting bloodwork results on
thyroid and iron tests.
Lisa Marasco posted recently that goat's rue may have properties to
reduce insulin resistance. Does the dosage need to be adjusted in any way to
allow it to better work against the insulin resistance?
       Any other suggestions?
       Thanks!
       Dee
