I am currently at a Childrens Hospital and have been asked by one of the
neonatologists to do creamatocrits and lactoengineering for a mom of a ex-
25 week premie that is now corrected to 32 weeks of age. He wants better
weight gain and wants to try to use all EBM. I can do the creamatocrit
using a centrifuge in the lab and Paula Meier's directions. My questions
are for any other facility that is currently doing this on a regular basis.
How often do you test the milk? What is done with the results? Are there
standing orders that instruct the staff to take the creamatocrit results
and add HMF to make the caloric density a certain pretermined amount? Do
you have any policies in place to cover this? Our lab QI department want to
know if the staff performing these tests have any special lab certification
for JCAHO? Any and all information will be appreciated.
