Dear Lactnuts,
I am an OT and mostly Lactnet lurker. Recently I have started to pursue
my formal education in lactation and breastfeeding and am excited to
learn as much as I can.
I would appreciate it if you would be willing to share statistics and
information regarding the birthing and breastfeeding practises in your
country:
1. What is the breastfeeding initiation rate? rate at 3 months? 6
months?
2. What is the setting of a typical hospital birth (ie labor & delivery
room or birthing suite)? Is there provision for rooming-in?
3. Estimate the length of time from birth to first feed.
4. What kind of breastfeeding education and follow-up are provided in
the hospital and once baby/mom go home?
5. What is the rate of Caesarean birth?
6. What percentage of babies born by Caesarean are breastfed from
birth?
7. Estimate the length of time from typical Caesarean birth to first
feed?
8. Does breastfeeding follow-up differ in any way for c/s vs. vaginal
deliveries?
9. What is the percentage of epidurals used?
10. Estimate the elapsed time between birth and first successful
latch-on for post-epidural babies.
11. If post-epidural babies have difficulty latching on, what kind of
follow-up and methods are used?
12. Where do you live?
Any or all of the above information you have access to would be
appreciated.
Please e-mail me directly.
If anyone is interested in any of this information, let me know and I
will be happy to forward it to you once compiled.
Thank you in advance,
Cori
