I have just read the post about the woman (living in Sydney at the time) who
was advised to start her baby on solids at 14 weeks.  I'm from a different
state, but it certainly isn't an Australian cultural "thing" to introduce
solids this early - it must have been a particular practitioner.  It's scary
to think that there are still people who are advising this sort of outmoded,
unscientific practice.
