Market research is a well known business.  Usually market research
participants are blind to the company sponsoring the research, at least
until the end of the focus group or data collection project.  I have my
suspicions about which co it is - think about who makes a product for
all of the categories they asked about...  I'm sure they are trying to
figure out why their (in my humble opinion, inferior) products are not
selling as they hoped.

$2. is "chicken feed" pay for market research participants, but since I
know ILCA can really, really use money, I answered the thing.  (The
dollar in the envelope is to set up a feeling of obligation in the
recipient, which I always feel but try to shake off, since I know it is
a calculated thing...)  I've participated in focus groups where I've
been paid $40-100 for a half hour or hour focus group.  When I was a
poor young mommy, that money came in handy.
