Dear Friends:
    In the 1940s and 50s, babies were routinely given  water, orange juice, 
and something called oleum percomorphum (something akin to  cod liver oil, 
given for vitamins A and D), even if breastfeeding, starting at 2  weeks.
    I can see how a person would substitute one juice  for another, given the 
mind-set of the time.
