I have several dozen clients right now that have extremely premature infants;
the youngest and lightest weight is a 23 weeker at 1 lb. 1 oz. She happens
to be the survivor of a set of twins. But the majority of "my kids" are less
than 26 weeks and all are under 2 lbs. One hospital in town will put these
kids to the breast without a bottle every having touched their lips. The
others, though, will wait until the infant is nippling well before "allowing"
breastfeeding.
