i heard that the one dose of formula changes the gut pH for six weeks. i use
this type of propaganda to try to override the "it's okay" attitude. i
remember reading this on lactnet some time ago. here is a reference i found
from the "Just One Bottle . . ." published in "Breastfeeding Review" Vol. II,
No. 8, November 1993, pg. 358.

"increase the chance of bowel infection and diarrhoea by change the pH of the
bowel. It may take up to one month to return to normal, safe levels."
