Nikki-

thanks for the great post

I have long felt that there is something going on re the destruction the closeness of mother and child.

The basic dumbing down of everything around us.

And for sure, the destruction of the breastfeeding relationship.

Now it seems like it is coming at us from all directions, all over the world. Everyone in OUR small world needs to become an activist. First by understanding what the meaning of these actions are - e.g. your pointing out the ties of the physicians to commerical interests. Then by taking some action - in an effective, intelligent way.

Advocacy needs to be a part of our education. We are not just selling a product we are also selling a commitment to the best that the maternal dyad can receive. You can not just take that off a shelf in the shop.

Re paranoia-

I have always said there is 'justifiable paranoia' - they ARE out to get you.

Andrew Grove (founder of Intel) has a motto 'only the paranoid survive.'

The AAP may have done themselves a lot of harm with this latest episode. We need to encourage as many 'powers that be' to protest this in a public way. Bravo Dr. Wight and publisher of the Journal to be.
