I have recently read the study as it pertained to one of our clients. Having
had all the INFACT warnings about the fact that mothers may need to wean, I
read the details we received with a fine toothed comb and could not read
that they had to quit breastfeeding to go on the Nutramigen and when I asked
the client who chose to breast feed and have enough colostrum so that she
did not have to use the bottles of "N" they gave her whether at some stage
she would be asked to wean and go on this stuff. She stated that she was
told that only if the baby would need "F" for medical reasons for low blood
sugar because she was a diabetic herself and that chance would be high, and
she didn't have enough colostrum of EBM would she have to use the "N".

She was already a confirmed and committed breastfeeder and had no thought of
putting her baby on "N" now or ever. Now could she have been put into the
breastfeeding category and other are not? But that wasn't part of the
literature we were given from Toronto Sick Kids" who are part of the world
wide study.

I do think it is totally unethical for parents to be given one specific
vegetable based formula instead of chosing any of the other products offered
by othe other companies showing a bias immediately but I guess my basic
question is___
Are mothers really asked to wean and at what age? I can't seem to find it in
the info pack. Or are we only seeing one set of information information
facts while others are getting other info depending on how they are assigned
in the study.

I realize that these studies have value but should the mother who continues
to breastfeed maybe also be taken off all milk or soy products while she
breastfeeds? More questions than answers.
