    I have worked with Classics, Lactinas, and Symphonies for a little more 
than 12 years.  What I see is that the Classic and the Symphony are both 
usually better than the Lactina at establishing *and maintaining* a good milk 
supply when the baby is not able to do his/her part of the equation in keeping 
up a good supply.   I have frequently seen mothers trying to use a Lactina for 
exclusive pumping, or pumping after feedings when a baby isn't nursing well, 
who started out with enough milk, but whose supply began to drop 
significantly within 2-3 weeks of starting to use the Lactina exclusively.  If 
they don't wait too long to call me, the supply usually comes back up nicely 
when I switch them to the Classic.
    I have seen many mothers do quite well with the Symphony.  But I have 
also seen a number of mothers who just couldn't get much of a supply with 
the Symphony.  Of those mothers, I convinced a number of them to try the 
Classic.  (I currently rent them for the same price, so it's relatively easy for 
the mother to just trade pumps.)  Within 4-7 days of switching to the Classic, 
most of the ones who had low supply with the Symphony saw a significant 
increase (double or more).  
    I know that Medela really wants to get rid of all the Classics.  They keep 
raising their rental cost to me for the Classics, because they hope I will return 
all that I have.  However, I have seen too many mothers who really need the 
Classic rather than the Symphony.  Until I just can't afford it anymore, I 
intend to keep the 7 Classic pumps I am renting from Medela, to rent to 
mothers with low milk supply.  If a mother already has low supply when I start 
working with her, I am much more comfortable renting her a Classic than a 
Symphony.  If I rent her a Symphony, and her supply stays low, I feel I have 
to then explain that if she switches to the Classic, she might get more milk, as 
I have seen a number of mothers do.  So, to avoid wasting time and effort, if 
a mother already has low supply, I just try to get her to rent the Classic, even 
though it is much heavier.
