I carelessly downloaded and lost a whole day's postings
(&%##@%~), so forgive me if this reference has already been
mentioned.
Jeanne Fisher (thanks again, Jeanne!) sent me this: Newburg et
al. J. Nutr. 125:419-424, 1995. The abstract says "The binding
of
the HIV envelope glycoprotein gp120 to its host cell receptor CD4
is inhibited in a solid phase assay by a glycosaminoglycan of
human milk...We speculate that...human milk...could limit the
rate of postnatal vertical transmission of HIV in breast-fed
infants of HIV-infected mothers." I have not read the article in
its entirety (blush) - it appears highly technical, and I am
highly stressed-for-time lately..... Hope this helps the
discussion. Judy Knopf in Israel (where it looks like spring has
come already....)
