I've been asked by a lactnetter whom I contacted regarding a breastfeeding
article in which she was quoted (without her permission or knowledge) from a
breastfeeding website. She was responding as a lactation consultant to a
mother with breastfeeding difficulty and the author of this article, which
appeared in a local baby magazine, evidently used her response and the
situation with this mother as if she had spoken directly to them.

This article also quoted two well known (to this list) professionals in the
lactation field, one of whom I have contacted (the other I need an email
address for) and who states no knowledge of this article, as well. This
article is about breastfeeding difficulties and while it has some good info
is written as if there are no answers to problems and no general consensus re
treatment-rather a depressing message, I feel, for a prospective or new mom.

So, does anyone know what rights one has for privacy when they respond online
in this way? What of an author "quoting" people without indicating the
source? I was totally under the impression that these people quoted in the
article had been interviewed-it seemed so the way it was written. Jeanette
asked is this an inherent risk to responding online as a professional?

Eager for input, please. Thanks!
