Oh yes Karleen, lots of mums even straight after birth will say "want some
boobie?" or over the next few days will say things like "he hasn't had any
boobie for  x hours" etc. 





"An aside that some might find interesting....I recently compared the names

that toddler+ breastfeeders use for breastfeeding from my Australian study

of long-term breastfeeding to the study that Kathleen Kendall-Tackett and

Murial Sugarman did in the US. For US children the most common words were

variations of "nurse" for Australian, the most common by far was "boobie,"

which was not even mentioned in the US study. One can speculate on the

reasons why such a big difference.

In my area it is not derogatory, just not the proper anatomical word!



"Boobie was my friend's (US) "code word" and I was never impressed with

it. I always feel like boobie/boob/boobs are a fairly derrogatory

reference to breasts in the US."
