<< At 3 weeks mom is still sore-lipstick nipple. Suck assessment, tongue is
coming down and forward but incredble pressure on finger, thrusting up with
tongue, clamping(mom describes this as well). I have tried tongue exercise,
football hold(hoping some gravity might help),pulling down jaw/lower lip
(which is always rammed up into the bottom of her nipple. Gone for deeper
latch, best positioning possible, suggested massage as infant has high
muscle tone(pushes against mom, holds head very well)-not working.

I assume the baby does not have a high palate? You said the birth was
unmedicated, vaginal. But, was the baby posterior or in some other
distressing position or had a precipitous or very long delivery? Vacuum or
forceps used? Pitocin? Even if none of these interventions happened, birth
trauma can still occur and in my experience, this type of clamp is usually
related to such trauma. I find amazing results w/ cranial-sacral or Network
Chiropractic, but in such extreme cases, do *not* find that massage is
adequate. Have you tried regressive therapy (known as bathing together for
those nervous about such terms)?
I cannot overstate the truly amazing results from the type of bodywork
mentioned above. If you need to mainstream it for the family, I would contact
the Upledger Institute (www.Upledger.com) and find a cranial-sacral trained
PT.
