Many, many thanks to all who sent me such great info to help the mother
whose baby seems to have a dairy allergy (we hope, at this point!). She's
hanging in there with all of those suggestions. I referred her to a
dietician/nutritionist yesterday because she was basically "hit or miss"
with her diet based on all the things she had to eliminate. We are also
further investigating the foremilk/hindmilk imbalance possibility.
Unfortunately, I have been called away to California all of next week; I'm
leaving as soon as my husband gets home from work today. Another peer
counselor (actually, it will be our group's cofounders, Janice and Sandra,
the two people this mom initially talked to) will be assisting her.

When this mom called again yesterday she was truly at wit's end, desperate
for results. It was difficult to get her to understand that she was only on
day 7 of her elimination diet and had only begun to work on other potential
problems. I hope that I was able to convey to her my understanding that
even 1 minute with a child in pain (especially at 3 a.m.) is like an hour;
she seemed to take great hope from my referral to WIC and a nutritionist.
She also plans to call her dr. to see about a referral to a nutritionist.
I think if she makes it to day 10 she'll be much better. I haven't talked
with her about it yet, but I've got to tell her somehow that switching to
formula will not make this problem better, only worse, not to mention more
expensive.

Sorry to ramble on, but I personally am feeling as though I am abandoning
this mom by having to leave and I have to believe that Sandra and Janice
will be able to keep her going. I'm sure they will...

If anyone has additional comments or ideas, please email me privately, as I
will be nomail this coming week. THANK YOU ALL!
