Hi all,
I wanted to update you on the two babies I had asked for help about a month ago:

To remind you: " Gained nicely until around 5 weeks, ate regularly -everything was "fine". In the last few weeks babies stood still or went down in weight. BOTH will get upset after a few minutes of bf and BOTH will calm only with the pacifier, and NEITHER will take a bottle or any other alternate feeding........"

Baby A, who was lapping up Mom's milk, was taken by her parent' s to a "feeding specialist" Gastroenterologist. He diagnosed reflux and suggested an upright position- , which I had also suggested., no meds, as of yet. I was basically "dismissed" from the case and didn't feel it appropriate to call to check up on progress. Makes me a bit sad. I imagine the supply will dwindle and they will manage on nutrimagen at some point.

Baby B, is still bf, not gaining much but not losing. Mom is taking motilium (4x2)and pumping about 3 times a day in addition to using an sns at meals. She is doing suck training (has become a family activity) and feels that there is some difference. She does not feel that motilium has any effect on her supply. What is interesting, in light of the discussion on pumping, she discovered that she has a very delayed let down. When she pumps she has to continue stimulation for over half and hour in order to get 80 cc. The first 15 minutes NOTHING comes out. She sees that pattern when she is nursing as well and the baby just gets frustrated and gives up. He seems to enjoy the SNS, but tires and cries on it, too. I suggested putting both tubes in his mouth at once. She feels that there is milk but no let down. I suggested pumping before latching but due to the long time till let down she feels that would be too time consuming, at least the baby is sucking while waiting for the milk. Parents have refused CST treatment.

I felt that a fuller breast will "let down" faster but I am not sure if that is something I learned or just "know" - any clarifications on that? At any rate she will be trying to pump more times a day (this baby is number 6 and vacation just started...........hmmmm.) and add a herb based galactagogue.

I hope that is all the petinent details. I would love your continued input.
Thaks,

Still wondering why babies will suck a pacifier or finger but not an empty breast.
