Instant Support for Breastfeeding Mums: NCT Opens Brand New

The National Childbirth Trust has launched its first ever UK-wide
Breastfeeding Line. Women with breastfeeding problems anywhere in the
UK can now simply dial the new phone line and they will be connected
automatically to a NCT counsellor.
Feeding a new baby is an intense and rewarding experience, but for
many parents pleasure is mixed with anxiety. Breastfeeding is a skill
that has to be learned like any other, but many women have great
difficulty finding a counsellor who can spend time with them and give
them the support and reassurance they need.

The new breastfeeding line will enable a mother to discuss her
anxieties and problems with a qualified counsellor, in the comfort of
her own home, just by picking up the phone and dialling one number.
Callers are guaranteed to get the support they need because the line
will only connect them to counsellors who are available there and
then.

The new phone line will allow the NCT to develop closer links with
NHS Direct. Parents with breastfeeding enquiries who call NHS Direct
will be given the NCT breastfeeding line number. NCT breastfeeding
counsellors offer free and confidential support, information and
counselling to everyone.

The new NCT Breastfeeding Line number is 0870 444 8708 (open 8am to
10pm, seven days a week). Calls are charged at the national rate. The
line opened on Monday 29 January 2001.
