     The Church DOES NOT consider LAM to be birth control.   As a well
educated Catholic (I graduated from a Jesuit university!) and as someone who
took the Natural Family Planning course twice, I can assure you that LAM is
not forbidden. Lactational amenorrhea is covered in the NFP class as a natural
occurence when women are breastfeeding and people are counseled on how they
can continue to use the Billings (NFP) method to monitor cervical mucous and
the return of fertility during the time of ammenorrhea.  I am sure someone has
gotten misinformation here.
