Hi Karen! Glad to meet you. So sorry to hear this "Unfortunately
the CNM doesn't believe giving bottles in the early days causes problems and
also believes that colostrum usually is not enough for the baby..(lots of
problems for me to help with :o( "
Keep working on the CNM but sounds like the moms need some prenatal
education so that they can assert themselves like we've been talking about.
Surely if the CNM sees the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative and the Mother
Friendly Childbirth Initative she would be convinced. What about the AAP bf
policy of 1997? Can the rest of the staff at the birth center convince the
boss to change? There are many model policies in bf texts which possibly
would convince her too? Has she ever observed a good position/latch and
see/hear the swallowing from the very first feed? Maybe this would convince
her.
