I'm working w/ a Type 1 diabetic mom, 10 days postpartum.  Baby was 3 weeks
early, weighed 5 lb 10 oz.  Dropped to 5 lb 4, has s-l-o-w-l-y worked his
way up to 5 lb 7 oz.  Good positioning and a good suck, just not a lot of
milk.

She felt breast fullness on Day 3, but no real engorgement.  Her pumped milk
is no longer yellow.  Some breast enlargement during pregnancy, no really
dramatic veining.  Today she leaked a drop of milk while preparing to nurse
- the first time she's done so.

Her blood sugars were extremely well managed during the pregnancy, are
tending to run low right now.  Although she knew her insulin need might drop
with lactation, I don't think it had occurred to her that that could be why
her sugar has been low in recent days.

She had greater than average blood loss during the birth.

She's started pumping and taking fenugreek.  Other thoughts?  What is it
about diabetes that inclines a mother to a slower milk supply?  **How slow
is slow?**  Is what we're seeing likely to be disease-related?  I can't
account for it in any other way, except that I've seen some moms who've lost
a lot of blood being slow to develop a full supply.
